Dear Friends, Family, Church

Many of you have been wondering what the situation with Joshua is lately.  We wonder that same thing each day, and the news that rolls in is just astounding sometimes.  It really seems that the Lakus are getting hammered left and right with bad news these days, so please continue to pray for them..

Our dear friend Colleen who spent a year here in Nagishot just sent out this update which I believe to be a very good and concise update with everything that has been happening up to now.  I hope it informs the way you are praying for Joshua, the Lakus and us.

Grace and peace, Jonathan

Hi Prayer Team,

It’s been a few weeks since I left Africa and I’m enjoying my time very much here in the states. It’s been hard for me to fully process my transition because I still feel so connected to Nagishot. Especially the Laku’s and Joshua’s current medical condition. As you remember the day after Thanksgiving Joshua drank a cup of battery acid. God worked miracles and it appeared that the physical damage done to his body was minimal. He has some liver damage and some stomach ulcers, all of which are being monitored with medicine.

The next news I am about to share with you is from a collection of sources still in Africa that are close to Laku’s and even emails from William.

Joshua and William even made the trip back to Nagishot for Christmas. They were there for a few days and then Joshua started acting strange again. It seems the psychological impact of his episode is far worse than the physical damage. He started behaving violently and hearing more voices telling him to do things. One day while William was preaching in church the voices convinced Joshua to stay home and burn all of William’s clothes as punishment. Joshua was behaving so wildly that he had to be physically restrained a few times. William decided to take Joshua back to Kampala for further treatment and examinations by the doctors.

Joshua loves the sunshine and he really enjoys taking long walks in Nagishot. While sunshine is easy to come by in Kampala the walks can pose to be a problem especially since he seems to want to do them by himself. The city is so large and he doesn’t always pay attention to where he is walking that it would be very easy for him to get lost and not be able to find his way home. Eunice and her children have had to lock Joshua inside the house with padlocks to keep him from wandering out and getting lost.

This has happened before and I heard that it might have happened again recently where he got lost for a few days. He was eventually found but he had been robbed of his clothing and was completely disoriented.

During this time Eunice’s younger brother, George, who works for the SPLA in Southern Sudan was arrested and accused of importing bullets into Sudan. He was placed in kind of a shady prison in Juba (capital of Southern Sudan).

Eunice had to leave Kampala and travel to Juba to bail him out of jail and then return to Kampala to care for Joshua. William is currently in Juba on some EFCS (Evangelical Free Church of Sudan) business but had time to send this email out to Tony with ReachGlobal. Tony then forwarded it to me and I am sending it you for urgent prayers.

“Hi, Tony’
I am already in juba, I may go back to Kampala because Joshua over dosed himself with his drugs and he is unconscious as from 3:00pm this afternoon up until now according to Eunice, Pray for Josh, Eunice and my other children in Kampala,
William”

The Laku’s are under serious attack and now that the Ramirez’ are back in Nagishot with the TIMO girls arriving any day it has my heart in a serious burden for prayer. Please pray with me for their protection. Pray for another miracle for Joshua, I believe that our Lord loves him deeply and will work this for good some way. Pray for William as he travels back to Uganda and for Eunice as she is probably leaning heavily on God for strength and comfort. Also, please pray for a breakthrough of light in this very dark time. I don’t think all of this would be happening if a breakthrough weren’t so close. There will probably still be more trials and hardships but I sense something big is about to happen in Sudan.

I do have some good news to report. There has been a wonderful response to our requests for financial aid for the Laku’s. I got this email from my business manager:

“The giving towards Joshua’s medical need has been phenomenal, most of it coming from the Austin church. We are in a position to help for quite awhile with any needs they may have.”

In Him,
Colleen “Natukoi” McCravey
